Reducing the Environmental Impact of Business Activities

Shimadzu Corporation

By using the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, Shimadzu has worked to reduce our environmental impact and prevent pollution, such as by reducing company-wide CO2 emissions, reducing and reusing waste, appropriately controlling chemical substances, and protecting biodiversity. The new head office building completed in June 2014, incorporates various features to save energy, such as automatically controlling windows to minimize the effects of direct sunlight and using natural air flow for the air conditioning system.

Designing Products to Minimize Environmental Impact

MCXS

In addition to ongoing efforts to design products that achieve lower CO2 emissions, we have also developed products helpful for manufacturing high-performance solar cells, such as the MCXS anti-reflective coating system for solar cells. Consequently, we are actively engaged in achieving a low-carbon society. We also contribute to global environmental conservation by using the Green Procurement program to reduce the environmental impact of the supply chain.

Responding to Overseas Environmental Activities and Environmental Regulations

Japanese Business Council in Europe

As a corporation that produces environmental measurement instruments, we are advancing the acquisition of ISO 14001 certification at overseas production bases as well. In Europe, as a member of the JBCE (Japanese Business Council in Europe), we obtain up-to-date information on environmental regulations, such as REACH and ErP, and apply it to the development of products with a low environmental impact.

・REACH: Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals
・ErP: Energy-Related Products Directive
