Shimadzu (Hong Kong) Ltd. and GL Sciences Inc. Form Joint Venture to Market Analytical Instrument Consumables and Pretreatment Equipment in China [JAPAN]
Shimadzu (Hong Kong) Ltd., a wholly owned sales coordination subsidiary of Shimadzu Corporation (Kyoto, Japan) in China, and GL Sciences Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) have established Shimadzu – GL Sciences (Shanghai) Laboratory Supplies Co., Ltd. Based in Shanghai, this joint venture was developed to market and sell Shimadzu and GL Sciences parts and consumables for analytical instruments and supplies for pretreatment in China. Shimadzu – GL Sciences (Shanghai) Laboratory Supplies has received approval from the Shanghai city government to begin operations, which will commence October 1.
Shimadzu Corporation and GL Sciences signed an agreement in September 2006, in which they agreed to cooperate in sales, the development of products and technology, and financially, for the purpose of contributing to the growth and development of their respective analytical equipment businesses. Since then, they have been building a relationship of mutual trust and cooperation through the co-development of new products and technologies and jointly selling products domestically and overseas. This marketing venture in China embodies the strong partnership the two companies have created.
In China, the aftermarket for analytical instrument consumables is a high-potential market, with growth expected to be in the double digits. Furthermore, user demand is increasing for manufacturers to provide total analytical solutions. This joint venture is a response to these market trends.
Shimadzu Corporation’s strength in the analytical instruments industry is its broad selection of instruments and its established marketing channels. In contrast, GL Sciences is the largest supplier of analytical peripheral equipment and various consumables in Japan. It offers a broad selection of pretreatment instruments and consumables, the ability to efficiently develop specific applications, and a far-reaching marketing network. By forming this venture, both companies will be able to jointly build the sales capability of analytical instruments, including peripherals, and offer local users products and solutions to meet all their analytical needs. Additionally, this venture will help facilitate expansion of their respective analytical equipment and supplies businesses in China.
