Shimadzu AA-6880F Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer

Shimadzu Corporation announces the releases of the AA-6880F atomic absorption spectrophotometer, which has been designed to offer excellent detection performance combined with enhanced safety features and cost effectiveness, particularly aimed at markets in emerging nations.

An atomic absorption spectrophotometer uses the phenomenon whereby atoms absorb light at specific wavelengths to measure the concentration of trace quantities of metallic substances in a solution. It is used in monitoring of drinking water, environmental water, and industrial wastewater, as well as in a wide range of fields such as food, agriculture, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals. The global market is estimated to be worth $420 million per year, with increasing demands in emerging economies. The AA-6880F has been developed in the R&D Division, Shimadzu China Co., Ltd., in line with the needs of emerging nations.

Shimadzu intends to expand its sales by offering the AA-6880F to its customers' inspection, testing, and quality control departments, taking advantage of its excellent detection performance and safety features, coupled with high levels of cost performance.

Shimadzu offers total solution for elemental analysis by wide range of techniques including Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy, X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy, and Optical Emission Spectrometry, in addition to Atomic Absorption Spectrometry.

1. High Sensitivity Within a Mid-Range Instrument

The newly designed 3D optical system uses a high throughput, dynamic beam manager method. An optical double beam method is used in flame analysis, whereas an electrical double beam is used in furnace analysis with the optional graphite furnace atomizer. Automatic switching between appropriate modes is possible, depending on the analysis method. The instrument offers high sensitivity, with the minimum Cd furnace detection level at 0.4 pg (typical value). Furthermore, the two-way system uses a deuterium lamp (D2) method and a high-speed self-reversing (SR) method, allowing background correction in line with the sample being analyzed. When the background correction is used in conjunction with a boosted hollow cathode lamp (optional), a further reduction in noise can be achieved.

2. Improved Safety Performance

Safety is an important consideration for atomic absorption spectrophotometers using acetylene gas. The AA-6880F includes a gas controller with a unique automatic gas leak detector, which detects not only gas leaks occurring outside the piping area but also internal leaks. In addition, the instrument features a pressure monitor that allows the prevention of flashback resulting from irregular pressure, an automatic momentary power outage detector, and a drain tank water level monitor to prevent flashback, among a wide range of safety features, providing an extra layer of protection and peace of mind to the users.

3. Easy to Use (Even for Beginners)

The addition of optional features such as a graphite furnace atomizer enhances the performance of the instrument that has both flame and furnace functions. The tool-less quick change function allows smooth switching between these operations. Moreover, the instrument is equipped with a standard hardware validation software that allows even inexperienced operators to easily implement validation.
