Observation of Primary Cultures of Nerve Cells

These images show nerve cells taken from the dorsal root ganglion of a rat. The observation specimens were prepared by (1) cultivating the nerve cells on a glass substrate, (2) fixing them with paraformaldehyde, (3) cleaning them with distilled water, and (4) air-drying them. The extended rod-shaped protrusions and bumps on the cell surfaces can be seen clearly.
