Ice Core Crystals
When a small amount of water vapor was introduced into the chamber while cooling the substrate (a sufficiently flat vapor-deposition surface) to keep it close to 0ÂșC, an object was observed in the middle of the screen. When the temperature of the substrate was increased, this object disappeared. The ability to follow changes while keeping track of the observation position yields advantages not available with conventional high-resolution observation techniques. (A sample heating and cooling unit was used.)
