Evaluation after Molding

Plastics are used in all sorts of products, ranging from household goods to automobiles and electrical products. Each of those products must have the mechanical properties necessary for maintaining their structure, the durability necessary for enduring the product service life intended when designed, and other characteristics. Therefore, the mechanical properties, durability, or other characteristics of molded plastics need to be evaluated after molding to make sure they satisfy product requirements. They also need to be evaluated to determine why they developed such characteristics. Evaluations performed after molding are listed below.

Evaluation   Instrument
Evaluation of Mechanical Properties Tensile, bending, and compression testing Universal testing machines
  Hardness testing Hardness testers
Impact testing High-speed impact testing machines
  Fatigue testing Fatigue testing machine
  Viscoelasticity Fatigue testing machine
Evaluating Thermal Properties Glass transition point, melting point measurement DSC
  Linear coefficient of expansion TMA
Measuring Density   Dry pycnometers
Evaluation of Optical Properties Transparency UV
  Color difference UV
  Turbidity UV
  Glossiness UV
Observing Internal Structures Observing distribution of voids and fillers X-Ray CT
Chemical Structural Analysis   FTIR, Raman, MALDI, LC/MS
Physical Structural Analysis   FTIR, Raman
