Q.Currently, we are using JCSS weights at our company to calibrate balances. So, I feel that there is no need to go so far as to commission an outside organization to conduct JCSS calibration. In which cases is JCSS calibration needed?

A : Inspection only in your company will pose no particular problems as long as inspection results are only for in-house quality control use which need not be made public. Yet, strictly speaking, in order to comply with global quality systems such as the ISO 9000 series, JCSS calibration is required. Though current examinations, apparently, are hardly required to that level, JCSS calibration will be required to cope with inspections by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, automobile industry or overseas organizations. It is also considered that there will be increased requirement for JCSS calibration in the future, too, in the ISO 9000 series.
