July 22, 2024 | News & Notices Introduction of Open Badges as Certification for Advanced Experts
Supporting the Acquisition of Expertise by Employees

In July, Shimadzu Corporation introduced Open Badge digital certificates as accreditation of the advanced national qualifications and internal qualifications required for business growth. Making an individual's qualifications and skills visible increases the motivation of employees to learn and supports career development.

Open Badges are digital certifications of knowledge and skills. They utilize blockchain technology, which makes forgery and tampering difficult, and they are being introduced in various countries by universities, accreditation agencies, and companies as highly reliable certificates. Open Badge Wallets set up for each person with a badge are controlled centrally, enabling the qualifications and skills possessed to be presented both internally and externally, as an email signature for example.

At Shimadzu, Open Badges are being issued to employees with Ph.D.s, those with technical qualifications (such as Professional Engineers, Patent Attorneys, and Chief Electrical Engineers), and those with administrate qualifications (such as Lawyers, CPAs, and MBAs) who fall under the category of “Advanced Experts” raised in the medium-term management plan. This also applies to employees who are internally recognized as experts in digital transformation through training.

Shimadzu is taking measures to define and develop the employees needed to strengthen our business strategies and management base. Through the REACH project, which involves the acquisition of Ph.D.s, we are providing an environment that supports the career development and the acquisition of expertise of each individual employee.
