The Shimadzu SAGX-V series automatic universal testing system has received a Finalist award in the Commercial & Industrial category in The International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2024. This award is one of the major design awards in the world, and is held by the Industrial Designers Society of America. Judgment is based on five categories: design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the client or brand, benefit to society, and appropriate aesthetics.
The SAGX-V Series Automatic Universal Testing System
Universal testing machines are used for strength testing to measure the strength of materials and how they change when a force is applied. The SAGX-V series system was jointly developed with a Chinese startup company in the robotics field, Shishi (Shanghai) Automation Technology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai). The the main testing unit, the robot, and an LED sensor that measures the size of the object to be measured work in tandem to fully automate the entire process, from measuring the dimensions of metal materials to tensile testing. Software that can be easily operated even by beginners improves the accuracy and efficiency of testing. The design of the system is modular, which enables components to be freely combined, and layouts can be changed to meet customer requirements.
