Release of the Health Improvement Platform SUPOFULL
Supporting Improvement of Lifestyle Habits of the Elderly by Visualizing Health Data
Shimadzu Corporation begun offering the health improvement platform SUPOFULL within Japan. This product is used by caregivers and local governments for their planned health management of facility users or local residents in the organizations that have introduced the product. It is a cloud-based service that supports the health improvement of users (reduction of dementia and frailty risks), by using an integrated report that collects and visualizes data such as lifestyle logs (lifestyle habits and exercise habits) and health examination results, etc.
In 2020, the mean life expectancy in Japan was 84.2 years. This is a difference of about 10 years from the healthy lifespan in which a person can live an independent life. The main reasons for needing caregiving are dementia, falls, and broken bones. To prevent these, it is said that good lifestyle habits and exercise are necessary. Daily health management that includes improvement of lifestyle habits depends on the person, and there are individual differences in the analysis and effective utilization of health data. Also, because of the shortage of caregivers, etc., individualized support based on multiple health data is an issue.
SUPOFULL is a health management system that enables organizations to simply visualize health data. By visualizing the data, health improvement of the user is promoted. Data that can be collected by SUPOFULL includes data measured with an AGEs Sensor (manufactured by Air Water Biodesign Inc.) which can measure the level of accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are said to be associated with aging and health; the skeletal muscle mass index measured with an InBody body composition analyzer (manufactured by InBody Japan Inc.), which is widely used in measurement of fitness level and by many health examination facilities and facilities for the elderly; lifestyle habit questionnaires; and health examination results (blood tests). Also, in the blood tests, MCI Screening Test Plus (operated by MCBI Inc.) tests results, for checking the risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) which is a precursor stage to dementia, can be aggregated. From the AGEs score values and the lifestyle habits questionnaire, a report that includes advice regarding exercise, diet, and sleep is provided by the system to the managers of the organizations that have introduced SUPOFULL. The report can be viewed from a device, etc., and the health status can be shared among managers and family.
To date, Shimadzu has developed SUPOFULL for implementation in society through a verification test with the day service facility Hitotsunokai Tamanoya (Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture), and through a collaboration agreement with Echizen City. In the facilities where it has been introduced, results have been obtained such as “the number of people undertaking improvement of lifestyle and training has increased” and “communication between users and their families has become more lively.” Shimadzu has technologies such as PET, bone mineral density measurement, fNIRS brain function imaging, etc., and examination data from these will also be aggregated in the SUPOFULL health improvement platform.
Shimadzu Corporation is focused on the med-tech business by supplying end-to-end solutions for health using analytical and measuring instruments and medical systems, thereby contributing to extension of healthy lifespan by raising health consciousness and early detection of diseases.
Features
1. Efficient and Organized Health Management of a Large Group
By introducing the product to organizations such as caregivers and local governments, health data can be managed in an integrated manner.
2. Multiple Health Data can be Handled
By aggregating information on users such as basic information, AGEs score values, measurement of fitness level, lifestyle habit questionnaire, and health examination results (blood tests) in SUPOFULL, the data can be visualized. The skeletal muscle mass index, which can be measured with InBody, can also be loaded into SUPOFULL.
3. Advice Based on Supervision by Specialists
The Health Report provides advice regarding lifestyle habits, in addition to the AGEs measurement results and the progress of program involved. The lifestyle habit advice is supervised by Professor Emeritus Shotai Kobayashi of Shimane University, former President of the Japan Brain Dock Society. The managers of the organizations that have introduced the product can provide guidance based on the advice and visualized data.
