Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding Related to Cooperation with Chungnam National University in South Korea
Strengthening Product Development and Human Resource Training Through Cooperation Between Industry and Academia
On February 21, Shimadzu Scientific Korea Corporation (SSK), a subsidiary of Shimadzu in South Korea, and Chungnam National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the objectives of strengthening the development of technology and research equipment, and promoting collaborative research between industry and academia.
Chungnam National University, which was established in 1952 in Daejeon City in the central region of South Korea, excels at training and research in the fields of science and technology as well as medicine and agriculture. In South Korea, which is facing a decrease in the number of universities due to a rapidly declining birthrate, and is promoting a reorganization of educational institutions, this university is putting its efforts into cooperation with the regional community, as well as internationalization, including collaborations with overseas businesses. As one aspect of this, in 2028, the university will build a new campus in Sindong, Daejeon City and plans to play a key role in human resource training and the comprehensive support of bio-pharmaceutical research, production, and quality control at the Sindong Bio Cluster, which the city is promoting.
The Shimadzu Group and Chungnam National University have a long-standing business relationship involving analytical and measuring instruments and medical systems. In recent years, SSK has provided the university with research and development equipment primarily in the fields of healthcare and green transformation. By signing this MOU, both parties are beginning cooperation between industry and academia with a view to collaborative research and collaborative development, and are taking collaborative initiatives for the development of programs for human resource training for researchers as well as participation in international collaborative research projects. Both parties will promote research and development for the resolution of the issues facing society, through the integration of their expertise as a research and development equipment manufacturer and an academic institution.
