The MALDImini-1 is the world’s most compact mass spectrometer. It can measure proteins and other macromolecules without damaging them and is capable of analyzing complex molecular structures. Despite being so compact and simple, the instrument is capable of performing extremely challenging analyses in a very short time, thereby providing new solutions in the mass spectrometry field.

Despite being so compact and simple, the instrument is capable of performing extremely challenging analyses in a very short time, thereby providing new solutions in the mass spectrometry field.
In contrast to conventional models that are the size of a large refrigerator, the compact size of the MALDImini-1 is nothing short of revolutionary. The volume of the system has been reduced by 97 %, so it can be installed in facilities where laboratory space is already cramped and at a premium due to the presence of many other instruments. In addition, power consumption has been reduced by 50 %, contributing to its environmental impact.
The system demonstrates its effectiveness in biopharmaceutical development, for example, where challenging analysis results are easily obtained thanks to its simple operation. Furthermore, since results can be obtained quickly, trial and error methods in which an analysis is rerun after modifying the analysis conditions depending on the results can be easily performed to quickly obtain the targeted results.
The design is minimalist and compact, using rounded corners to create a user-friendly impression.
The design is based on the concept of compactness while fitting into the existing MALDI lineup through the awareness of being the little brother to the flagship models. By doing the design this way, we were able to cooperate with the many stakeholders involved without being sidetracked as development progressed.
