Reusing/ Recycling
Shimadzu offers a variety of analytical and measuring instruments for lithium-ion battery applications ranging from R&D and evaluation of material characteristics to product quality control, degradation analysis, and recycled material evaluation. Shimadzu is committed to achieving a sustainable society by offering optimal solutions for customers involved in all stages of lithium-ion batteries.
From a product life cycle perspective, lithium-ion batteries will hopefully be reused or recycled. For reuse, the degradation status needs to be assessed by inspecting the quality, mainly by non-destructive inspection, to ensure degraded batteries can be operated safely. Recycling mainly requires composition analysis for checking the quality of valuable metal powders (black mass) recovered from used batteries and for investigating any contaminant components that could affect refining processes.
