AOAC2024

AOAC INTERNATIONAL is a non-profit membership association of analytical science professionals in government, industry, and academia worldwide. They promote food safety and product integrity through standards, validated test methods, and laboratory quality programs. At the annual meeting of the AOAC, national regulatory authorities and companies participate to discuss the standardization of food inspection laws, the verification of analytical methods, and the latest developments. We presented posters and held science sessions on various analytical methods. Check out our highly informative posters.

Scientific Sessions

Date Title Summary
August 27, 12:00 pm -1:00 pm Vendor Presentation by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Inc.
A Panel of PFAS Perspectives
Join Shimadzu for a panel on PFAS testing approaches and industry needs from the perspectives of analytical testing and consultant firms specializing in research and method development. Listen as we showcase work on PFAS testing from packaging and materials by researchers at RJ Lee Group, and hear from Dr. Volker Bornemann of Avazyme as he discussed his research on PFAS testing in both food and environmental samples. Following the talks will be a moderated panel discussion on challenges and laboratory needs; join us and be part of the conversation.
August 28, 8:15 am - 9:45 am Development, Optimization, and Single Laboratory Validation of an LC-MS/MS method for PFAS in Food This session will provide updates on the current methods being developed to assess PFAS content in foods and food packaging and provide the latest information on US regulations on PFAS in food packaging. Additionally, development of testing methods for pyrrolizidine and tropane alkaloids will be discussed. Also included will be a presentation concerning a high sensitivity rapid strip test for patulin, designed to meet current regulatory limits in foods for infants and children.
Starting at 8:15 AM, Shimadzu will present a single laboratory validation (SLV) study for a liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method to determine PFAS in a variety of foods in accordance with AOAC SMPR 2003_003.
August 28, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Keeping Food Safe from Unintended Exposures  The topics covered in the session include the assessment of gluten transfer in frying oil, quantification of ethylene oxide in food, development of a novel marine toxin reference material and analysis of micro and nanoplastics. This session will be of interest to those who want to know the latest research in food contamination, quality, and safety.
Starting at 1:20 PM, Shimadzu will present an example comparing the liquid injection method combined with QuEChERs extraction and the more sustainable headspace method for ethylene oxide analysis.
