Shimadzu Corporation has been selected as a Nadeshiko Brand in recognition of being a publicly listed company that actively promotes the role of women in the workplace. Nadeshiko Brands are selected by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange from among all companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange based on their replies to a survey. Companies are evaluated from their corporate value creation story, including “career formation support from hiring through to job assignment,” “support for both parties, regardless of gender, enabling dual income families and dual childrearing,” and “connections between administrative strategies and human resource strategies including the involvement of women in the company.”
Shimadzu Corporation has a history of cultivating a woman-friendly workplace culture, beginning with the pre and postnatal leave policy introduced in 1948 and then policy improvements implemented to ensure that women can continue working. The WiSH diversity promotion project was started in 2015, and in 2022, the Diversity & Inclusion Promotion Group (Now DE&I*1 Promotion Group) was established in the Human Resources Development Department in the Human Resources Department. Additionally, Embrace Differences, Include One and ALL was established as the Shimadzu Group DE&I slogan, and activities have been promoted to ensure that everyone can leverage their unique personalities at work. As one aspect of this, Shimadzu has started training for all management personnel including unconscious bias assessment training and training aimed at female mid-level leaders. Shimadzu is promoting a change in thinking by promoting opportunities for supervising managers and their subordinates to join together to consider their careers. By maximizing diversity on an individual basis, the Shimadzu Group is creating innovation together with all its stakeholders, aiming to continue to resolve the challenges of society.
