Shimadzu Corporation has invested in Basetwo Artificial Intelligence, Inc. (Basetwo), through its Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) fund, "Shimadzu Future Innovation Fund" (Shimadzu FIF). Basetwo is developing process informatics (PI) ^※１ tools that optimize manufacturing conditions and predict failures through simulation of pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing processes.

Traditional production management systems face challenges in addressing productivity declines and unexpected downtimes resulting from plant complexity and aging facilities. The pharmaceutical and chemical industries in particular require new production management methods to enhance quality and efficiency. Basetwo's PI tools utilize physics-informed AI models that combines mathematical modeling and machine learning to analyze various data, enabling the identification of processes with potential failure risks and providing suggestions for yield improvement. The low-code^※2 of the tool makes it user-friendly for plant designers and engineers, facilitating easy implementation in the field.

Shimadzu Corporation has traditionally been strong in materials informatics (MI) technologies that streamline material development operations. Through this investment in Basetwo, we aim to provide total solutions utilizing both PI and MI technologies.
