Kyo-Kumihimo (braid)

At our company, we treasure traditional hand-weaving techniques typified by kimono obijime while continuing to create kumihimo handicrafts using “braiding machines.”
We are learning traditional techniques passed down through the ages, and our employees take up new challenges daily so that we can expand the range of uses of our crafts. Recently, rather than limiting ourselves to Japanese kimonos, we have created applications across a wide range of industries, including accessories, jewelry, decorations for Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, and even large-scale construction projects. Also, since we are flexible in incorporating new materials in our products, we are meeting more and more people from industries that we would normally not have had much contact with in the past. Kumihimo has grown by weaving functionality, decorativeness, and spirituality into a single strand.
While studying the wisdom and ingenuity of our predecessors, who spent many long years accumulating this knowledge, we hope to realize a future where the making of kumihimo remains needed.
