Nishijin-Ori (brocade)

In addition to weaving carbon fibers, using nishijin-ori techniques to weave in gold and silver threads creates the appearance of flowing water in a pattern that expresses not only quality design but also functionality. By combining nishijin-ori techniques with the contemporary design style of Shimadzu instruments, we hope that nishijin-ori can expand into new fields, not just Japanese kimonos.

Hironori Fukuoka

Fukuoka Weaving Co., Ltd.

Kinjiro Fukuoka established the Fukuoka Kinjiro Store at its current location in 1902 and they have consistently developed fabrics ahead of their time. In recent years, they have improved the typical shuttle looms used for nishijin-ori and have commercialized carbon fibers and other highly functional fibers as selvedge (finished edge) fabrics with a continuous weft.
