Tsuiki is a metalworking technique in which a lump of metal or metal sheet is repeatedly hammered out and stretched to form a three-dimensional shape. The tsuiki technique is used to create Shinto and Buddhist tools and tea ceremony items, both of which are handicrafts associated with Kyoto. The small, beautiful hammer marks created by this technique are applied to the grips. We want the tiny hammer marks to convey the sense that this is manufactured in Kyoto by craftsmen who pay attention to even the most intricate parts.
