Exhibition at ITEM2024: Contribute to Solving the Societal Challenges Using Medical Imaging Technology

Shimadzu Corporation exhibited jointly with Shimadzu Medical Systems at The International Technical Exhibition of Medical Imaging 2024 (hereinafter ITEM2024), held at PACIFICO Yokohama (Kanagawa Prefecture) from April 12 to 14.

International Technical Exhibition of Medical Imaging (ITEM)

The International Technical Exhibition of Medical Imaging (ITEM) is organized by the Japan Radiological Society (JRC) and is Japan’s largest exhibition of medical imaging equipment. Each year, it is held concurrently with the annual meetings of three academic societies: the Japan Radiological Society, the Japanese Society of Radiological Technology, and the Japan Society of Medical Physics.

According to an announcement by the organizers, 146 companies exhibited at ITEM2024, and more than 18,000 visitors attended over the three days of the event, including doctors and radiological technologists.

Shimadzu Booth: “Lightening the Burden of Medical Examinations” and “Geriatric Healthcare”

The burden on healthcare workers is increasing due to the low birthrate, aging population, and population decline. Based on the theme of “Evolution, Innovation, Transformation—Solving Challenges Together,” Shimadzu demonstrated how it is contributing to resolving this societal challenge through advances in diagnostic imaging technology (Evolution) and the creation of new value (Innovation) to bring about change (Transformation).

Shimadzu Booth: “Lightening the Burden of Medical Examinations” and “Geriatric Healthcare”

In addition to “Heightening Examination Efficiency” and “Geriatric Healthcare” (Dementia and Bone Health), the 500m2 booth was divided into sections dealing with “Orthopedic Surgery,” “Endoscopy and Gastroenterology,” “Angiography,” “Operating Rooms,” “Emergency and Intensive Care Units,” and other clinical fields. Shimadzu products, technologies, and initiatives were introduced at each section respectively.

At the “Heightening Examination Efficiency” display, demonstrations were held of a general radiographic system that can provide diagnostic imaging examinations of various parts of the body including the head, chest, abdomen, and limbs. The system lessens the burden on radiological technologists and patients thanks to improved usability of the control panel (console), and the inclusion of an optical camera that detects movements of the patient.

Shimadzu is also going ahead with initiatives related to dementia and bone health (including osteoporosis). At the “Geriatric Healthcare” display, related products and technologies were introduced through videos and actual instruments.

In the future, Shimadzu will contribute to “human life & well-being” (healthcare domain), “well-being of the Earth” (green domain), and “industrial development and a safe & secure society” (materials and industry domains), in the pursuit of the planetary health (well-being of mankind and the Earth).

Comment from the Person in Charge

I would like to sincerely thank the incredible number of visitors we had this year. At the new product exhibitions, I had a real sense that many visitors were paying close attention to the live demonstrations held. In addition, pillar-shaped displays were set up within the booth illustrating the concepts behind our initiatives, which were appreciated by our visitors. At Shimadzu, we will continue to challenge ourselves to contribute to society by providing support to healthcare workers and patients.
