Abstract
Exosomes (small extracellular vesicles) are produced by a variety of different cells and have garnered significant interest in recent years. Exosomes can encapsulate proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, making them a highly promising platform for clinical applications in diagnosis and treatment as well as industrial applications in cosmetics and food. Based on this potential, exosomes have become a focus of research and development in academia as well as in numer-ous companies and the market for this field of research is growing rapidly. Our team has developed a rapid quantitative assay for exosomes using immunochromatography. We have also developed a system for quantifying multiple exosome surface antigens by using metal-labeled antibodies and mass spectrometry. This article describes these novel methods and presents prospects for their future use.
