Sustainability Promotion System and Internal Penetration

Sustainability Management Promotion System

We have established the Shimadzu Group Sustainability Conference as the promoting body for sustainability management at our company. The conference comprises members such as the chairman, president, executives, full-time auditors, division heads, group department heads, and representatives from domestic and overseas affiliated companies, with the Strategic Management Office serving as the secretariat. The results of the conference are reported to the board of directors, where suggestions for the promotion and further development of sustainability management are obtained from the directors and auditors.

Improve employees' understanding of sustainability management

Regarding the promotion of sustainability management, we believe that understanding and penetration of independent activities within each department are crucial.
Specifically, we share content aggregating internal and external information on the company intranet for employees, and provide opportunities for voluntary learning of sustainability management through e-learning using our original SDGs badges and materials. These SDGs badges are made from thinned timber from the “Shimadzu Corporation Forest” in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture. The local forestry cooperatives, sawmills, and woodworking shops are involved in the production, including participation by people with disabilities. As penetration within the Shimadzu Group progresses, it leads to giving back to society. Recognizing that lack of knowledge on sustainability can be a risk, this is positioned as one of the team learning contents on risk management for the entire company.
Informing our domestic and international employees about basic knowledge on sustainability management, including domestic and international trends and the relationship with our business activities, helps reaffirm the societal significance of each department's efforts and contributes to increased employee engagement.
